
Early Signs
Some early signs that a child might need speech and/or language therapy:

Difficulty pronouncing sounds

Stuttering

Confusion or difficulty following simple instructions.

Limited vocabulary

Difficulty expressing themselves in social situations.

Limited eye contact

Frustration when they have difficulty saying what they want to say.

Problems playing with other children.

Red Flags and Milestones

6–9 Months: Limited babbling.

12–15 Months: No gestures (waving/pointing) or not responding to their name.

18 Months: No first words or fewer than 20 words.

24 Months (2 years): Not using two-word phrases, or struggling to combine words.

3 Years: Speech is consistently hard for strangers to understand
Early intervention is key in long term success for children with speech and/or language difficulties.

Booking an initial evaluation will allow the clinician to narrow in on what specific language and/or speech areas need therapeutic intervention.
